“Very nice picture” 2009-03-23
By P. Draper (San Jose, CA United States)
When our daughter moved in with a friend, she didn’t have room to take this TV with her. We borrowed it for our master bedroom and couldn’t be happier with it. The sound and picture are very good. When she’s ready to take it back, we’ll definitely order our own!

“Excellent 32″ 720p LCD HDTV” 2008-08-23
By J. Gordon
I bought this item as a store demo for use in our master bedroom. It seemed okay with some slight wear, but it was the right choice. With a DVR from our cable company, the picture quality is outstanding, with at least good sound quality. It does take a little while to turn on and to change functions, such as between inputs, but it’s not a big deal. With plenty of analogue inputs, and 2 HDMI inputs, it should be versatile enough for most needs, including a high-def source such as satellite TV or high-def cable, and of course a home theater system with an upscaling DVD player. Sharp has an excellent reputation for high-quality products with low rate of repair needs, so I would recommend this TV to anyone looking for a really fine quality 720p 32″ LCD HDTV. The remote control is also very user-friendly.

“Don’t waste your $$” 2009-03-27
By Mitch10 (San Francisco, CA USA)
I’ll try to keep this one short and to the point. First, I have been making a living by knowing how to use and service Windows; the PC this was installed on is a very stable XP box. Basically it worked OK for a couple of months, I got more channels than my analog TV, but the reception on several would cut out for a few seconds at a time for no reason; I could accept that. But then it just stopped working; no reception at all. I tried reinstalling, reconfiguring and even tried new drivers (which wouldn’t install) basically have come to the conclusion that it’s junk as none of the drivers included recognize the hardware even though Windows says it’s still there. This will be my first and last Hauppauge.

“Perhaps TOO well-made?” 2008-09-02
By 4thGenTeg (Orlando, FL, USA)
This is a very nice, clearly well-constructed cable, with gold contacts, heavy gauge wire and strain reliefs, and glossy black braiding. They work wonderfully, and I was shocked at the low price after paying literally five times as much at the big electronics store. However, the cable is perhaps unnecessarily large and heavy, and so thick that if you have a lot of HDMI devices, these cables could take up more space than you’d like, both on the television or receiver you’re plugging them into, and behind your stereo or tv stand.

I have mine connecting the tv to the cable box, and I worry a bit about the sheer weight of the thing stressing the input on the tv, and honestly don’t think I could fit another in the next HDMI slot over. At the very least, you should get a look at these before you say, order six of them intending to connect all of your devices. They’re great, but really may be overkill for normal use.

“Surprisingly Heavy Duty & Great Quality!” 2008-02-18
By J. Alsteen (Wausau, WI)
I, like many people, was debating on whether I should buy a cheap HDMI cable or get an expensive cable such as Monster brand. I used to work at Best Buy in Home Theater and I know how a good cable can make a big difference, but didn’t want to spend [..] for good quality. I researched for weeks and finally decided to try this one out because it is 1.3 (the most current standard) and it is a Category 2 cable (best category having Higher-quality construction with thicker wires 24gauge instead of 28gauge).

All I can say is WOW! I was not let down, this cable is just as good as those over priced Monster cables. Thick, High-quality Construction with braiding. GREAT Video Quality and Speed. I couldn’t have found a better cable and for such a cheap price [..] after shipping!

( For good info on HDMI go to: [..])

“Very nice, very robust HDMI cable” 2008-02-06
By J. Howard
These “PTC Group” brand “Premium Gold Series” 24 AWG HDMI cables are very robust. With 24 AWG conductors, the overall cable diameter is about 0.4 inches, so keep in mind that this cable cannot be bent to a small radius, or snaked through some tight spaces. The ends have huge strain reliefs (0.7 inches in diameter), so I’d imagine that these can survive a lot of abuse. The cable’s bag indicated the product is ROHS compliant. Provided crystal clear 1080p video from my Sharp BD-HP20U Blu-Ray to Sharp Aquos LC-52D64U LCD Television.

“Sharp AQUOS LC-46SE94U” 2009-09-02
By TechieDesi (NJ USA)
I bought the Sharp AQUOS LC-46SE94U today and the picture is pretty good. The picture quality for standard def, blue ray and dvds are great. The menu options are not as advanced as a newer sumsung but are good enough. The black color is good. Overall the SE model looks great. The leather around the edges is not real but not noticable. The internet widgets are ok, they dont include netflix. The sound quality is ok. I got a good deal at a local store, came out to 1200 including taxes, for a 46 inch 1080p, 120HZ its a decent price. The best part of the TV is that it does not have any glare on the TV. You should note that there is a software update for this tv that you will have to download onto a usb drive and install.

I also have samsung 650 46 inch tv – I would say that this tv compares pretty well. The standard defention channels are much better. The features are much more expansive on the samsungs but they also cost more.

“Top-tier image quality” 2009-02-03
By Charles Burns (Pocatello, ID, United States)
This is among the best quality TVs made in 2008.

There are now sets with better picture quality, such as the Limited Edition series (also from Sharp) which use LED backlighting, but they are quite expensive.

There are many brands of television, but Samsung and Sharp manufacture the vast majority of LCD panels.

Other brands, even big names like Sony, Toshiba, and Pioneer, only buy panels from manufacturers and build electronics around them. Sony, in particular, charges quite a lot for their brand name even though they didn’t even make the panel!

Some Sharp panels from past models were known for having a color banding problem. This was endemic in Sharp televisions for a long time, though most peopled did not notice. I am happy to report that this set does not suffer the same problem.

Absolute contrast is 3000:1, 3 times that of most other sets. Dynamic contrast (contrast achieved by adjusting the intensity of the backlight) is 27,000:1, and in practice, the brightness this set can produce is almost over the top. It literally hurts my eyes and lights up the entire living room, though I usually keep it at low settings because I am not into intensely bright screens.

My 46″ set uses about 150W of power at 20% backlight — not bad. It can use just over 300W at full brightness (actual measurement).

The internet service, “Aquos Connect”, is fairly worthless. It is slow, takes up screen space (or the whole screen), and has terribly response latency — if you switch views or turn it on/off, it takes a while to comply. It may be handy for showing weather or stock information occasionally, but you will probably be more likely to walk to a nearby computer or change to an appropriate TV station rather than work with the clunky TV internet interface. The possibility of remote servicing and diagnosis sounds promising, however.

I can’t comment on the speakers as I use an external stereo.

The connections are well placed and, in particular, the HDMI and RCA ports on the right side of the TV are very useful for connecting temporary hardware, such as a friend’s game console.

This TV handles many more resolutions with the VGA connector than any previous HDTV I’ve had. I tested it at 1600×1200, but no higher. Works well.

I use this screen mainly as a computer monitor, connecting my computers DVI-out to one of the TV’s HDMI connectors using an HDMI cable and adapter. It looks beautiful and works very well for both business applications (even Photoshop, which has long been a poor program to run on other LCD screens due to color accuracy problems) and gaming. The response time is so fast as to not notice any blur or shearing, and the TV works perfectly at a full 1080P, 60 Hz.

This screen may be able to display at 120Hz, but it cannot accept input at 120Hz. 60Hz is the maximum, at least at 1080P. This leads one to wonder how it can play a Blu-Ray movie without shearing at 24P if it cannot accept input at an even multiple of 24.

One final noteworthy comment is that this screen does NOT have a glare problem at all. Many glossy screens, especially those on notebooks, reflect the surrounding light so well that you can shave in your reflection. Very distracting. This television has absolutely no glare problem whatsoever. Its glare is even lower than the previously popular matte (non-shiny) LCD panels.

I can only see noticeable light reflection at about a 60-90 degree viewing angle (though even at extreme angles, the picture still looks fine).

Overall I am very happy with this TV and find its faults to be incredibly minor. I’d recommend it over any other 2008 television set (though Samsung has very nice panels as well). However, if you want the highest-end and are willing to pay for it, look for something with LED backlighting.

“Great TV few minor issues” 2009-01-03
By Robert Baker (Arizona)
This is an excellent TV, i am really happy with it. It actually weighs around 50 lbs, which is light compared to others i seen.

Cons: No digital audio coax output/input, however It has 1 optical audio in though.

If you plug in regular coax cable to the tv and the cable has a weak signal, you will see a constant display window showing the audio switching from mono to stereo. This is solved by flashing the firmware update provided free by sharp, just need a usb stick, or if you have a cable box for digital cable. Plug it in via HDMI (best), Composite, Component (better), or SVideo.

AQOUS Net is a total joke, the web browser is really slow.

Great Picture, however not seeing the 10 bit color difference, especially on an XBOX 360. The black gloss floor gradient on the NXE dash is using more color than what the TV has, which results in blotches or color gradient bands (not the “banding” issue some people complain about).

Pros: Light weight (about 50 lbs), 1080P HD, if your getting basic HD service for free, try skipping the cable box, the built in tuner might save you rental fees.

Smart stretch works great on 4:3. The design is great, however the remote can be better.

Overall it’s a really great set.

“Excellent TV” 2008-08-12
By Mrs. Sarah E. Torgersen (Huntsville, AL United States)
Very good picture. The high-def image looks amazing. I’ve only had two small problems with it. First, I’ll sometimes hear a high-pitched noise when changed from a digital channel to an analog channel. This goes away if I switch back to digital, then to analog again. Second, I’ve had the picture not display when turning the TV on. To fix this, I turn the TV off, wait for a few minutes, then turn it back on.

“Shines in video, tad weak in audio” 2008-06-03
By Marvin Gozum (Phila, PA USA)
PROS

Video:

Consistent high picture quality across all resolutions, but at times consistently over saturated at 480i analog. With available custom user settings, the SE94 allows one to set a custom preset 480i color compensation. All the following were reviewed via Cable TV setting, DVD player or using the [...] test DVD.

color balance

image movement

still

sharpness

free of artifacts: jaggies, ghosting, image runs, especially in fast motion video

These are the settings I’ve tested:

480i via analog TV signal or digital

480p standard DVD output and digital TV

720p Broadcast HD digital

1080i Broadcast HD digital

1080p DVD output upconverting

Sharp’s advanced video features are set at default, most are OFF. The test DVD showed a small amount of red color bleed and slight staggering in anti-aliasing tests, but no moire patterns.

I compared the video with input provided by a Sony NS700H/B DVD Player. The video is inferior via composite but there is little difference in images between component and HDMI inputs. I compared audio RCA cables instead of component cables on the component jack and was surprised by a slightly degraded picture, so slight it would not be noticed unless it was compared against HDMI.

HDMI offers some convenience features: it auto selects the HDMI input once signal is detected, and turns off the device automatically once the TV is turned off.

Tuner:

Includes NTSC, ATSC and QAM tuner. The QAM tuner allows access to ‘open’ digital channels, not advertised by the cable company.

Shipment:

Via Amazon ordering, deliverer carefully followed sign off instructions to the letter: allowed me to examine the condition of the box at delivery, open box, and examine contents before I signed off on the delivery.

Setup:

Quick and easy. Attach speakers then mount stand, all screws or bolts supplied with tools. Plug into AC and cable coax, and the SE94 automatically detects signal and begins EZSETUP process. Follow onscreen instructions and when done, the TV is ready to watch cable or air broadcasts.

For Input jacks, equally easy. Just snap on the cables as color coded or the HDMI, then select INPUT from the remote until you receive signal from the device. On HMDI devices, it auto detects signal and auto selects that input first.

Setup is unique per input. The SE94 remembers the volume and video setting of each input.

Packing:

Very durable and sturdy. The lower half of the box serves as a stand until you can assemble the enclosed stand. Importantly, the styrofoam pads never go farther than the metal frame of the LCD panel, and thus do not touch the glass panel anyway. It would be wise to save the box in case this TV needs to be returned, its very customized to the TV and difficult to provide the same protection for shipping as this box.

Instructions:

The Sharp manual is not as well written as a Sony manual. It seems to require more careful reading, whereas Sony’s has always been user friendly.

Cables:

None supplied. I used or bought cables elsewhere.

Faux leather trim:

Is almost invisible, other TVs with shiny metallic borders often get dulled by fingerprints, the faux leather appears cleaner longer because it hides dirt better.

CONS

Remote layout poor but provides access to all the TV’s functions: related or frequently used buttons are not grouped logically together and often small; it can’t be operated without looking at the keys, e.g. the universal controller has a toggle that lights up LEDs when its set for DVD, VCR, TV etc., whereas on a Sony, these are all unique buttons, and easier to find and press.

Bands: Using the detailed [...] TV tests, slight bands were detected on my SE94 using ‘grey scale’ test, its otherwise most invisible. On some LCD TV forums, there are reports of sizable bands in the SE94 series that are annoying and can be seen in regular video. Just how common these are is unknown.

Volume is a tad weak: at 15Wx2 its rated stronger than many competitor LCD TVs yet it output is weaker compared to my old analog TV. The emulating ‘Surround’ algorithm of Sharp is not as ’surround’ as the SRS algorithm.

CONCLUSION:

Given the audio issue, I’d rate it 4.5 Stars versus 5. The video is so stellar, it more than outweighs the audio drawbacks. Buyers should be cautious that reports of banding has been reported in the SE94 series, and it can be very troublesome.

“great TV” 2009-03-27
By B. Blumberg (Irvine, CA)
This is an outstanding TV. Bright clear picture, clean motion, lots of inputs. I considered the comparable Samsungs but did not like the shiny screen or frame. The picture quality was indistinguishable to my eyes in the store. I ultimately settled on Sharp due to the reports of extraordinary customer service for Sharp vs. much less satisfaction with Samsung customer service. I have not been disappointed with the Sharp so far.

Update – After nearly 6 weeks, the wall mount finally arrived. Thumbs up for Sharp, thumbs down for Abe’s of Maine.

I would have rather purchased the TV from Amazon, but they do not sell this model direct. So, I bought from Abe’s of Maine, who offered no tax, free shippping and a free wall mount. This made their price substantially less than other vendors; moreover, Abe’s was highly rated as a vendor. My experience? I cannot recommend Abe’s of Maine (actually, Abe’s of New Jersey). After I ordered the TV online, I got an e-mail to call them to discuss the order. Not surprisingly, a high pressure salesman tried to get me to upgrade everything from the mode of delivery, to the free wall mount, to an extended warranty, even to a different TV. I did upgrade the delivery as what came for free was “curbside delivery” and got a mount that was thinner (and tiltable) compared to the “free mount” that was included with the TV which was not tiltable. After about 2.5 weeks, the TV showed up. Delivery was quick and easy and the driver helped me remove the TV from the box and set it up. But the wall mount I ordered was not included, forcing me to scramble to find a solution to put the TV on temporarily. So far, I am still waiting for the wall mount, more than a week after reporting it missing.

Bottom line – This Sharp is one fine TV. Abe’s of Maine was disappointing.

“Still happy after a whole year” 2009-01-26
By R. Winningham (Fort Worth, TX)
I purchased this TV about a year ago and watch it daily. I really enjoy the display, even in well lit areas. The matte finish was non-negotiable for me. The room I have it in has many light sources, and even though they are all visible from the dispaly, none are reflected back from the matte finish on the display. Compare that to the new Samsung’s that are extremely reflective and are best used in darker areas.

When I was deciding which display to purchase, I visited Best Buy several times to compare this and other sets. To this day, the LC52SE94U remains the best looking set on the wall, at least to me. If I had it to do over again, I’d have bought the same TV. When I win the lottery, I’ll get the bigger version.

Here’s my rundown of pro’s and con’s:

Pros:

* Matte display

* Attractive bezel

* Removable Speakers

* Lots of inputs

* 120-Hz much more pleasing to the eye than the competition

Cons:

* Lack of DVI input

* Auto Brightness feature annoying

* Stand does not swivel

If you’re mounting this to the wall, and have a single HDMI cable coming from an upconverting receiver, it’s nearly perfect. It will be interesting to see what OLED TV’s look like and how it will affect the price of existing LCD TV’s.

Just a month before we purchased a 42″ Sharp Aquos, and as fantastic as it is, it does not even compare to this one. The picture is fantastic and the way it links to the Bluray player is cool. We are very pleased.

“Unbelievable!!!” 2009-01-04
By David J. Offerman (Chicago)
I was blown away at the price for this tv. Adorama Camera always has unbelievable deals…The Sharp Aquos is 120 hertz refresh rate, 1080p, detachable speaker and a very classy finish – kind of a black matte around the tv. I like it much better than the smooth shiny plastic most tvs have.

“great LCD bad pixels” 2009-01-01
By etp (FLORIDA)
Update #3/ BB has picked it up and I will check my account for a credit today. So far BB is perfect. Be sure to leave your TV on for 36 hours and then check a channel with a blank screen for stuck on pixels. These will only get worse folks.

Original review,

BB delivered this a few hours ago and I have it up and running without a hitch. It is as thin in places as the Samsung 850 but not over the whole cabinet. Picture is perfect. The manual doesn’t mention 120MHZ video but Demo Mode does

“You can select the image from 3 types of demo mode.

Mode 1: 120Hz Fine motion advanced with the picture.

Mode 2: 120Hz Fine motion advanced.

Mode 3: AQUOS net.”

Advanced menu says

“Fine Motion Advanced

Use Fine Motion Advanced to view fast-action video

more clearly.

On: For obtaining a clearer image.

Off: No adjustment.

Fine Motion Advanced may cause image noise. If this

occurs, turn the function “Off”.”

So I am not sure what all that means and will be testing it over the next few days to see what is up with the 120MHZ.

So far a very fine LCD with no problems. It tagged my free 21U on the HDMI inputs and allowed me to lable it as BD21U.

Stand by for more info later.

Update/the speaker terminals and external speaker bar rocks. I assume you could hook up a couple of speakers to those outputs?

Update2/ the series “”"Sharp LC-52XS1U-S”"”is the thin one and not the 94 series limited edition. I did not know this since none of the stores had the 94 series on display. I am still happy with the product but may have got the Samsung 850 if I knew that. Maybe. LOL/still a great TV.

Bad news//second day and bad pixels. At this point in time I am seeing how painful the [...] pickup/return/credit will be. Since I got a geek squad install and several free items I am wondering if that will all get credited correctly(what a mess plus they hauled off the boxes). If it does I will post the good news here.

“Distorted picture, tiny sound” 2008-12-09
By Barry Mckenzie
Just purchased a VIZIO 26″ LCD HDTV and not so easy to get started. Picture widths stretches out the faces or compresses what’s on screen. The sound is tiny. Have played with all the settings for two days and had to change a lot of the factory settings. With the distorted picture it is to small for my living room. Not one reviewer has mentioned any of these problems.

“Nice entry level HDTV” 2008-10-16
By Larry L. Sanmiguel (San Antonio)
I purchased one of these from a local walmart to replace my fading SDTV(CRT). i was a bit apprehensive at such a quantum leap(going from a tube TV straight into a LCD HDTV). The tv has great picture, good simulated surround from the speakers; and is pretty user friendly. (though the remote I got with it doesn’t match what the actual TV can do, as my remote has no “OK” button, but some of the features require the use of an OK button.)

Another drawback to this TV is it’s lack of outputs, for my PS3 I had to leave the A/V connectors hooked up to my surround sound and then hooked up HDMI to the TV and then split the signal VIA the ps3’s options. This was very annoying as I wanted the sound to come from both the TV and the surround system; instead of just one or the other.

Other than that, I’m very happy with the TV.

I have my computer pluged into it and i have my xbox playing hd threw it. In my house every room we have a hd vizio in it just a gret quality tv for a great price. But dont buy it thinking it has pip( picture in picture) like i did. That got me very mad, evedently this tv doesnt have all the great feateres the bigger vizios have, like the one in my front room. Still great tv great price.

“Great buy” 2008-07-28
By The Pab 4 (Virginia, USA)
I just purchased this TV from a local vendor, just to use in a bedroom (so I didn’t need a huge size). I admit, I was worried about the quality of an unknown brand (unknown to me, at least), especially since the price was great. But as soon as I hooked it up (easy!), I discovered that the picture quality is excellent, the sound is superb, and the channel capability exceeds my much-larger plasma in the living room (a different manufacturer)–this TV detects channels outside my viewing area, allowing me to see NBC, for instance, from all the surrounding cities. It simply assigns extra channels these “-x” numbers. For example, I have 10 or 11 channel 26’s, so if I click on “26″ on the remote, I go to channel 26-1. Then when I click the channel up key, it goes to 26-2, 26-3, and so forth, showing me all the channels from Baltimore, DC, and even Richmond to the south–something my Tivo box doesn’t do (since it can’t assign more than one channel 26), my other analogs don’t do, and neither does my big plasma TV do this. So it’s just nice to see the channels that the cable company offers, if you have the capability to assign multiple channels to the same number. And the TV did it automatically at that.

In all, it’s got great sound, excellent picture quality, and digital receiving, so it really is a great buy all around.

“High Quality 32″ LCD” 2009-03-04
By xeno
I am extremely pleased with the overall quality of this television. While it is a bit on the pricey side for a 32″, the quality of the picture (in both SD and HD) is amazing. I purchased mine refurbished, saving a few hundred dollars, but it is worth the money.

Pros:

Superior SD and HD quality picture

Wonderful viewing angles – No picture degradation

Good audio for an LCD

3 HDMI inputs (including one on the side of the unit, which is helpful for wall mounting, which I have done)

Tons of options for adjusting the picture settings

Great design

1080p

Cons:

A bit pricey for the 32″ size (Some of the 1080p 32″ sets are now around $750)

Power up time and input changing speed are average

It is hard to find a TV larger than 22″ with a white bezel, and this is the only option out there that isn’t several years old.

I highly recommend this TV if you are looking for a unique color (Red, White), 1080p, and a high quality picture.

“very pleased with lucky choice” 2008-12-19
By Anonymous10,000
When I decided to get an LCD TV, I shopped on line a bit and settled on this one, thinking the Sharp name would be enough to ensure a decent product. I am more than pleased with my decision. The picture on this TV, even with just rabbit ears, is outstanding. The sound is excellent, too, which is something I was worried about with a flat panel; however, I was pleasantly surprised.

I chose this model because of the 1080 resolution and the cabinet style, which I think is the most attractive out there for TVs of this type. The base allows the panel to rotate about 110 degrees, which is very nice and not particularly common with these things. I bought the red one (it’s really more burgundy, but that’s hard to tell from the pictures), and am glad I got such a unique set; it matches my crib. The auto brightness feature is great, especially for a bedroom, where I use my TV. Setup was easy and virtually everything is pretty intuitive without having to read the manual.

The cons are: cheesy remote with cheap feel and poor key layout (I bought a Sharp blu-ray at same time, and it came with much more functional remote with better feel); the fact that you have to toggle thru inputs on remote (see other reviews); on-screen display of menu items is too small, although it is neatly laid out. Although it offers stereo audio and subwoofer line-level outputs, I don’t like the switching on these. I know they did this because they think this is what most people would want, but not I. Seems like a simple firmware matter to offer one more selection for audio output configuration.

Overall, though, I’m highly pleased. For years I lived without a TV (by choice) and then with only rabbit ears. I’ve already tried the digital converter box (govt. cheese) on my old tube set and the reception was poor (unlike this TV, which is great with just rabbit ears). So I caved in and did what Big Brother hoped I would with the digital switch: bought a new tv and signed up for pay service, which I’m getting next month. Next year if I find I’m watching enough to justify it, I’ll move this set to the kithcen/office and buy a bigger LCD for the bedroom, probably for less than what I paid for this one (about $860 from Amazon in early December 2008).

I want to use the TV’s speakers along with my stereo; I can do this, but I am not able to control output level to stereo (stereo volume) from TV as switching to variable line level output on TV turns off the TV speakers, which I need for realistic sound staging.

I want to use the TV’s speakers along with my stereo; I can do this, but I am not able to control output level to stereo (stereo volume) from TV as switching to variable line level output on TV turns off the TV speakers, which I need for realistic sound staging.

“The best 1080p and the best overall LCD….no comparison – hands down” 2008-12-14
By niknyce (new york city, NY USA)
This HDTV is provides the most vivid, stunning picture I have ever seen. I spent over 3 months shopping for a 32″ true 1080p with very high contrast ratio and excellent overall picture. The only model that comes close to this is the similar Samsung DNIe in 32″ class. This is my first HDTV and it is used a computer monitor, gaming monitor, and TV. It has so many inputs I could probably use it for 5 other things. The design is slim, the weight with the stand is only 40lbs. The picture is – flat out – unbeatable. Go to any major retailer and spend some real time and you’ll know. There is NOTHING like AQUOS. Sharp knows the technology, and this is their flagship product. I recommend anyone shopping in the 32″ class 1080p – spend the extra few hundred. It is NOT for the name. It is for the quality, and there are very few brands I can say that about. 10,000:1 contrast ratio and 6ms response time will show you the future of high definition LCDs.

But when is set up is a very good card, no freezes or glitches.

“Best customer service” 2009-08-28
By J. Wong
I have been using this card with Media Center for 5 months. I live 10 miles from the broadcast stations so even the little antenna picks up a station or two, but an amplified indoor antenna gets all the basic stations and a few more.

The weak point in this card and with most devices like this is that the card end of the antenna connector is somewhat delicate. I had pieces break off after being transported a few times. They supply a little plastic cover and I wasn’t using at the time, but is important to protect the connector tip during transport. After a while the loss in connection got to be annoying, but Hauppauge quickly was able to point me to an item number- 6021215 and their sales department (800-443-6284) ordered me an $11 replacement cable. Also I noticed that the new cable fits more snugly than the old one.

I had the Avertv MTVHBNOER Hybrid Nano Express (Retail) before, but the connector was even more delicate and their customer service never responded when I asked to replace this part. So 4 stars for the product and one extra for the excellent service from Hauppauge.

“Worked well, but broke after a month” 2009-02-23
By J. Duggins (Denver, CO)
I really liked the video quality and it was very easy to set up, however I found that even though I have a graphics card which will support the device, sometimes the video (mainly recorded) could be very choppy. I didn’t like the WinTV software, I found it to not be very user friendly and I didn’t like that it didn’t have a guide function like Media Center does.

The other thing is that it stopped working after a month. Too late for me to return or exchange the device. This is why I gave the product only 2 stars.

“YES, you NEED a roof antenna!” 2009-02-15
By Pop-Up Fan (USA)
What a disappointment. I bought this equipment to enable me to watch TV in the computer room, and the darn thing barely picks up one station in my viewing area with the dinky little antenna they provide. Turns out I was better off just using the local stations’ websites. IMHO, save your money. The only reason I gave it two stars was that I can’t tell how much better my experience would be if I had an outdoor antenna hooked into the gizmo, so I’ll give them the benefit of that doubt.
