Enjoy better pictures with the samsung‘s HL-T6187 DLP HDTV. The piano black bezel is just 0.6-inch wide so the slim depth lets it fit where others won’t. The energy-efficient 61-inch screen features a powerful, long-lasting LED light engine that turns on almost instantly. Full HD 1080p resolution and samsung Cinema Smooth technology deliver a wide range of brilliant colors, with bright images and crisp definition. The blackest blacks, brightest whites and nuanced tones are yours with a 10000:1 dynamic-contrast ratio. Hidden speakers deliver clear, robust SRS TruSurround XT sound. The 120Hz switching speed and Game Mode keep gamers marveling at the lifelike action. A wide range of audio, video and HDMI inputs allow digital connectivity to Cable/Satellite boxes, Blu-ray players, AV receivers and more. Please note: samsung recently changed the suffix on this TV from HLT-6187X-XAA to HLT-6187SAX. The change was not technical in nature and there is no difference other than the suffix in the model number.

I purchased my HLT6187 in mid 2008. A few weeks ago, the sound and picture disappeared. Samsung sent a contracted repair servce twice to replace the LED engine, BOTH times it blew again within 24 hours and I called them back (should mention here that their hold times are ridiculous, and twice when I was transferred to their ‘executive customer care’ line, the phone rang for up to 10 mintes non-stop before I hung up and dialed again). Samsung then contacted the service people, determined that it was not reparable, and offered an exchange. I was offered a 52″ LCD that sells for $300 less than my 6187 did, as Samsung does not make DLP TVs any longer and they were taking unit depreciation into account. Quite frankly, their accounting issues should not be my concern, as their TV stopped working *under warranty*. I said I would not accept their exchange, as I purchased furniture and arranged a room around a 61″ screen. I told the rep on their ‘executive’ help line that I would consider (begrudgingly) accepting a 55″ LCD unit, she said she would relate that to the exchange department. They came back with the snarky reply that sure, they would exchange for a 55″ unit, for a $750 fee. I was pretty ticked off. I said I wanted a refund then, and the rep said they would begin processing it, but it would take up to 3 weeks to send someone to take back the television.

In short, my advice is to AVOID SAMSUNG as their customer service is the worst I have experienced with a large company. I will never buy another Samsung product again.

My review will be very objective since I’ve had this model since Nov ’07. I’ve had no problems at all with the colors or lamp burning out. I use my tv almost everyday so it gets a good work out. This tv is especially great for Blu-Rays they look fabulous. I own the Sony BDP-S350,S300 models and they play without any problems. I also have a Denon AVR788 reciever because as others have said the sound on the tv speakers is not very good especially for a 10 x 18 room. HD Channels also look great like PBS. Eventually i will probably upgrade to the 72 inch but this baby should still last me a few more years. I know I will have to get the lamp replaced also but so far i’ve been very lucky.

I would definitley recommend a Samsung tv to anybody ouy there!!

I absolutely loved my 61″ Samsung! Without a doubt, the best I have owned. However, all good things must end…Mine bit the dust after 10 months of use. First, we lost all red color…then something else went. The good thing about it is that it was still under warranty. We had the local Samsung warranty repair shop take a look at it and they found three defective parts, two of them were in stock. The 3rd pard needed to be ordered. After tree weeks without any communication, we finally found out that there was a backorder for the part we were waiting for. After 6 weeks, I finally called Samsung direct and got someone in the executive department and they were stunned that I had been without the TV for so long. Now, however, we have been informed that Samsung is no longer producing the DLP models and the shortage of parts was key. I have not heard this (discontuing the DLP) from any other source and was skeptical initially. But, because they are replacing the DLP with a highend 52″ LCD, I am beginning to wonder.

Again, the 61″ DLP was a beautiful TV with an abundance of positives. My only negative is that I didn’t have it long enough. I sure hope all the other posters of the 61″ have a long-life TV and that you don’t need parts too soon.

Can’t say enough good about this TV – Out of the box plugged in and the picture is perfect! After a year of living with it I would recommend a Sammy to anyone.

Both of my good friends bought $3000 LCD tv’s and I think there is no comparison.

If you can find this model on clearence BUY IT! – or the A750 version that replaced this one should even be a bit better (hard to believe)

I love this TV. I have had it for about a year and a half, and have had zero problems with it. The picture is crystal clear, and the LED bulb is the way to go. No sound comes out of it, and it has an amazing setup of input/outputs. I won’t go into detail because everyone else has already, and they are right. My only problem with this TV was something that I didn’t run into until a year down the road, when I was setting up an audio system. It seems that on this model, the optical audio out does not convert the high definition aduio that is coming in from any of the HDMI ports. It will only convert an analog signal. This, to me, is pointless, but customer support told me that this was changed in the 2008 model, which would make the 2008 model 100% perfect, in my book. Still, it’s not a very huge issue, and is only a problem because of my Xbox360, which will not split the signal like the PS3. Oh well. In all, this TV is absolutely amazing, and everyone who sees it says the same. If I had to, I would buy it again.

Great TV. I’ve had this for several months now, and it produces a beautiful image, only slightly less “brilliant” than a LCD panel. The piano black finish is stunning, but does get smudged easily. I don’t use the internal speakers or amp, so I can’t attest to this unit’s sound quality, but image quality is superb. The only complaint I have is that every time the input signal changes ever so slightly, the HDMI port switches to “searching for signal” for about 15 seconds. This gets annoying. I currently have it connected to a Denon 3808 via HDMI, and all my other equipment is connected to the Denon (i.e. the only cable going to the TV is a HDMI cable). Whenever I switch from the DTV to the HTPC (or to and fro any other component) the TV goes into “Searching for signal” for about 15 seconds. I’m learning to live with it, but it’s annoying. Other than that, great TV. I had heard about a “darker band through the middle”, but I haven’t experienced that at all.

Couldn’t be happier with our new Samsung TV. Incredible color and clarity. Love watching sporting events on HD.

Great picture, decent sound, all the right hookups and a great deal. The only issue with this tv, as with all rear projections, is off-axis viewing. Sitting to the side, lower or higher reduces the image quality.

I got my HDTV on November 9th, 2007…paid only $1899 for it through Amazon (Tiger Direct) – there was a misprint, but they honored it anyway. I set it up and made room – LOTS of room for this giant. I let it warm up to room temperature for about 24 hours. It was about 10°F at the time of delivery. Turned it on and put my HD-DVD player to the test watching David Gilmour in concert from his 2006 World Tour (of which I got to see in person in Chicago) and it felt like I was right back in the venue watching him again. Hooked up to my Kenwood VR-5900 and 7.1 Channel Surround Sound – I was blown away. Utterly amazing and have watched none better.

About Christmas time, we had an issue, but it was not with the TV. The cable line somehow got voltage running through it and it damaged the LED Light Engine. I contacted customer support for repair (got the 5 year extended warranty as well) and they came and picked it up on January 2nd. They tried fixing everything, ports, wiring, different electric parts but could not get it fixed after 30 days. Needless to say, I was a little pissed at Samsung…my repair shop tried to tell Samsung that it was the LED Light Engine that was not working properly…but they would not replace the Light Engine. That was to my benefit as I wouldnt want a brand new TV that had been rigged up with a bunch of new parts. Samsung finally replaced my TV on February 3rd and I got it in my door on February 15th.

Since then, I have had absolutely no issues (and the cable company found the problem with the voltage in the line – their error – frayed cable near electrical wiring) and it works perfectly. There is not one reason that I can think of to not buy this tv as every effect and every process works as it should and with utterly shocking quality. If not for my voltage issue, I would have been jumping up and down about this tv months ago. Just wanted to make sure it was going to do what it says it will do. It does.

LED LIGHT ENGINE – 20+ Years??? NO BRAINER! Get this TV now!

Compared to my old Panasonic 53″ projection the picture is a dream, but it’s quirky. Had the Blue Halos fixed, does have rainbow effect on bright light sources, screen is bowed up about 1/2″ at the top right, the occasional crackling from the case is very disconcerting. Twice it has refused to turn on – unplugging “reset” or whatever and then it worked. Hooking up the PC through the HDMI cable is fine, but through VGA it gets some not supported error. The sound sucks unless you turn bass way down, price you pay for compactness.

Compares favorably picture-wise to friends smaller high end LCD’s for nearly half the price – for the $1800 its really hard to beat the value for a 61″. If it lasts a couple years until the next latest greatest thing i’ll be happy
